Emil Hagamu, Regional Coordinator for English-Speaking Africa Having served as HLI’s leader in Tanzania for many years, Emil Hagamu graciously stepped into the larger shoes taking his talents farther out to expand across Eastern Africa. Emil earned a Bachelor degree in Education from the University of Dar es Salaam and a post graduate diploma in Management and Administration in Rhede, Germany. He also earned a degree from the Post Abortion Counseling and Healing program at Rhathvinden College, Ireland. After working as a teacher in various secondary schools and colleges in Tanzania, he joined the Bishops’ Conference there and served as the National Coordinator for the Christian Professionals of Tanzania. For the next eight years, he served as the Executive Secretary for the National Council of the Catholic Laity. It was during this time that he became acquainted with the pro-life movement and was inspired to found Pro-life Tanzania in 1994 to specifically promote the life issues in his country according to the teachings of the Catholic Church. In 1996, Emil was invited to attend a Human Life International workshop in Johannesburg, South Africa. With the encouragement of HLI, he was
Emil has established a multi-faceted network that provides Tanzania with a full range of pro-life education programs and resources. He has the close collaboration of the Church hierarchy there; and he is a sought-after speaker, educator, and consultant for all life-related issues. Plus, he has a regular program on Tanzania’s Radio Maria, and through this medium he reaches untold numbers, even in remote areas. In his role as HLI Regional Coordinator for English-speaking Africa, Emil has already travelled to Malawi, Swaziland, Mozambique, Lesotho, Namibia, Zambia, Mauritius, Comoro, Sudan, Ethiopia, Botswana, Uganda, Kenya and Zimbabwe. Everywhere he has gone; he has taken the Gospel of Life and has established good pro-life contacts, by either initiating or invigorating pro-life movements in these countries. |
